This performance symbolizes leaving behind the idea of Arjen Kamphuis still being alive somehow. Understandably, his friends and family still hope he is, but as time passes and new discoveries are made, hoping for a sign of life seems more and more to be wishful thinking instead of clear perceiving.  

Letting go is the most constructive choice when loss has taken place, but most of the time we resist to do it. Why are we so adamant about holding on to pain? The Burning of Arjen Kamphuis creates a situation of loss, thus forcing loss to be faced on a visceral level, while simultaneously offering an opportunity for its acceptance.

In this performance, the artist leads by example by sacrificing his own work.
